Malcolm was born in Harrogate, England. He immigrated to South Africa with his father and attended St. Andrews College. At the outbreak of WW 2 Mac joined the South African Naval Reserve and was assigned to a Royal Navy Corvette operating on the Indian Ocean. Mac received the Star of Burma campaign medal. As WW 2 was ending Mac immigrated to the USA and joined the American Army, going to Japan for the occupation. He got to see the result of nuclear war on a city. After the war, Mac then immigrated to Canada where he joined the RCAF in 1947. He served for 27 years, retiring in 1974 as a Chief Warrant Officer, and settled in the Comox Valley in 1981.
Mac met the love of his life Gloria Lorraine Morse at an Air show in Greenwood, Nova Scotia in 1948. They were married shortly after on September 29, 1948. Mac and Glo spent 64 happy years together until Gloria’s death in 2012. Malcolm is survived by his sons David (Kathy) of Campbell River, BC and Robert (Noelene) of Omemee, Ontario, 4 grandchildren – Natalie Wolsey (Dylan), Michael Denton (Janessa), Sarah Mitchell (Darcy), and Samantha Wolfe (Grant), and 8 great-grandchildren – Nicholas, Thalia, Isaac, Brett, Chloe, Gavyn, Garrett, Grayson.
Malcolm was predeceased by his son Wayne in 1980 and his wife and best friend Gloria in 2012.
There will be no service as per Malcolm’s request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Interment will be at a later date for Malcolm and Gloria in Belleville, Ontario.
