Dad was predeceased by the love of his life, Ruth Elizabeth and his granddaughter, Esther, who had a special place in his heart. All of Gordon’s children survive him in the best of health: Bruce (Susan), Joan, Catherine (Tony), Leslie (Tim), Elaine (Al ), and Sidney (Vance). Good genetics prevailed and Dad was blessed with many grand, great and great-great grandchildren, all loved and engaged in his life. We all owe our humanity, love of family and moral code to this extraordinary gentleman and our beautiful Mom. This is why it will be complicated and not immediate as to when the memorial service will be held and so the time will be posted later this year for sometime early in the summer.
Dad was a RCAF Word War II veteran, a Wireless Air Gunner (Radio Operator) on a Halifax bomber, ‘Corkscrew Charlie’ of the Porcupine Squadron with the rank of Pilot Officer, which flew many missions over Europe. He later met and married Ruth Hamilton from the Comox Valley, stayed, raised his family and invested in his church, St. Peter’s, and the broader community.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his long-time doc, Dr. Green and her associate, Dr. Brae, the incredible loving and caring staff at Cummings Home and, finally but not least, the staff of 3A and 4A at the North Island Hospital, Comox Valley who, over the past 4 months have nursed Dad with compassion, dignity and love. Their kindness has been extended to our large family who were made welcome day and night so that the last part of Dad’s life was just as full of love and family as ever.
“Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart” Ps. 37:3-4.
