She was born January 7, 1930 in Coshocton to the late Earl and Helen (Burrell) Sheppard. Her family settled in Coshocton in the early 1800’s. After graduating from Coshocton High School in 1947, Liz worked at the Farmers Exchange.
She married Edward F. Gehrke on May 8, 1952. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2016.
Liz and Ed lived all over the United States during his 28 year career as a pilot in the U. S. Air Force. Liz did extensive volunteer work in the military and received numerous awards. They returned to Coshocton in 1979, to farm and at that time, they created and operated Eagle Realty for over 10 years, with Liz receiving her Real Estate License.
Liz loved to read and especially enjoyed following Ohio State football and basketball. She also was very interested in genealogy and read every issue of the “Kinsman Courier”. Liz was very active for many years in the Ohio Farm Bureau. She and Ed traveled extensively throughout Europe in their retirement.
Liz greatly enjoyed the view from her deck of the many birds and animals that frequented her yard. She was a devoted wife, a loving sister and she served as a role model to the next generation of her extended family. Her kindness, intelligence, generosity and loving nature made her a “Special Aunt”. The family will greatly miss the reunions, holiday events and delicious meals. Liz and Ed were the “glue” that kept the next generation coming back year after year.
Her numerous nieces and nephews will sorely miss this wonderful woman!
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 12:00 at Canal Lewisville Cemetery, 198 E. Church Street, Coshocton, Ohio, with Pastor Mark Granger officiating. A celebration luncheon will follow the service at the Canal Lewisville United Methodist Church.
