David L McCabe

David L. McCabe 81, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away on November 1, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Coshocton, Ohio, on May 19, 1933, the son of the late James and Evelyn (Cox) McCabe. David graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Coshocton and received a B.S. in Business Management from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

He married Mary Lou Bordenkircher on October 3, 1953, and after living many places including Maryland, Florida, and Saudi Arabia, they settled in their hometown of Coshocton, Ohio.

David worked his entire life, not fully retiring until last year at 80. He was a war veteran of the U.S. Navy, a Mission Support Technician for all U.S. Space Missions from the birth of the space program through all lunar landings and Skylab, and an entrepreneur; one look at the framed photos in his basement provides a glimpse of the places, faces, and impact he had on others in his lifetime.

He was passionate about his family, his faith, and caring for veterans. He was often found in the kitchen working on a culinary creation while humming a tune and joking with family and friends. He enjoyed camping during the summer months, traveling to Florida, and fishing with his family- his daughters were frequent crewmates on his boat. A keen player of Texas Hold’em, he enjoyed weekly games with his friends. David was an active member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, American Veterans, Knights of Columbus, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

David is survived by his wife, Mary Lou and their seven children: Richard (Maura) McCabe of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Victoria VanKlaveren of Red Bud, Illinois, Cynthia (Bob) Yingling of Stuttgart, Germany, Deborah (Rob) Ford of Coshocton, Ohio, David (Diane) McCabe of Columbus, Ohio, Daphne (Tim) France of Coshocton, Ohio, and James (Sherrye) McCabe of Marysville, Ohio. He is also survived by his brother, Sam, 17 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at 10:30am,with Father Victor R. Wesolowski officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery, where the Coshocton County Veterans Council will conduct graveside military rites. The family will greet friends at Given Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 9:00am-10:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to Hospice of Coshocton.

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free! I follow the plan God laid for me.
