After graduating in 1968 from Jenkins High School in Jenkins, Kentucky, Danny was a deep miner in Kentucky and later in Ohio where he retired from Peabody Mines in Coshocton.
After retiring from the mines, he worked 16 years as an orderly with the elderly and brain injury patients. He volunteered with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. He loved his family, his dogs and his music.
Danny didn’t know a stranger. He was loved by all who met him. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Rose (Ice) Shortt, who he was married to for 48 years; daughters, Tanya (Travis)Tristano and Raylynn Shortt; and son, Tyler Nichole) Shortt; Grandchildren, Kane (Amanda) Wilkie, Brady Stewart, Ella Stewart, Teagen Shortt-Wilkie, Xander Tristano, Libirti Shortt-Wilkie, Virginia Kwynn Tristano, Risten Shortt-Wilkie, Kannen Shortt-Wilkie, Gatlen Shortt-Wilkie, Bristol Shortt, Daniel Shortt, Kamilah Shortt-Wilkie, Vinden Shortt-Engram and Oberen Shortt-Engram; Great Grandchildren, Braxton Stewart, Dawson Wilkie, and Bennet Wilkie; a very special Nephew, Ron Auvil; Nieces, Maggie (Gerald) Kennedy, Carol (Wayne) Shaw; Great Nephews, Axel Slaughter, Aadon Slaughter; Great Nieces, Tasha (Aaron) Slaughter, Hannah Shaw, and Alivia Day; former sons-in-law, Warren Wilkie and Tony Engram.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm with Pastor Steve Young officiating. Burial will be held at Fairfield Cemetery.
