Tomasa T. Padilla

Tomasa (Tomacita)Torres Padilla, 106 years of age, passed on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at home in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Tomacita was born on December 23, 1918 in Monterrey, Mexico to the late Eusebio and Evarista Torres. She passed away peacefully after a long and productive life. Until the end, Tomacita maintained her kindness, compassion, love of family and friends.

Her life was lived for family, friends, plants, work, and endless projects of sewing, crocheting, and sewing dresses for dolls. Her dry humor was appreciated by all. Tomacita knew that friendships, like gardens, take work to maintain, and she put in the effort and received the rewards.

Tomacita came from a family that included seven sisters and three brothers. Tomacita was born in Monterrey, Mexico and came to the United States in 1918. She married Demetrio Padilla and together they had four sons and four daughters. She became a U.S. citizen in 1973.

Tomacita worked hard her entire life. She worked in the fields with her family picking various crops across the country. Tomacita had a strong faith in God and love of family.

Tomacita’s four sons all served in the military with three going to Vietnam, where her oldest son, Israel, was wounded. Tomacita, with her eight children had 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She always had a little present or money for each. Each work of her hands was treasured by the child.

Tomacita leaves a memorable legacy of a life well-lived. God blessed her for her faithfulness with a long, love-filled life of 106 years. Her sons and daughters, family and friends will miss her dearly.

Tomacita was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her son, Pete Padilla.

A visitation for Tomasa will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 9:45 AM, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. An interment will occur Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
