Shelby Marcella (Marcie) Cosgrove Davis went to be with our Lord on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the age of 92. Marcie was born to Rev. Allen Darrow Cosgrove, Sr. and Rosa Ann Shaver Cosgrove on June 23, 1919 in Crawford, Texas, one of 9 children.
Marcie’s early years were spent in Oklahoma where her father was a Circuit Minister for Methodist Church and a cotton farmer. She graduated from Walters High School and attended Cameron College in Oklahoma. After leaving college, Marcie moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she was employed, in 1941, at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. It was here that she met and was united in marriage to Petty Officer Cloise Milo Davis, Sr. on September 4, 1943. After several moves with the military and civil service, Marcie and Cloise settled in Corpus Christi where they became charter members of Trinity Church of the Nazarene. Marcie loved the retail business and retired in 1986 from Bealls’ Department Stores as a credit coordinator.
Marcie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and all eight of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son, Cloise M. “Mike” Davis, Jr. (Lori); a daughter, Verna Davis Springs-Regier (Dave); grandsons, Austin and Cody Davis; 5 step-great grandchildren, much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
It was Marcie’s request that her testimony be made to all that read this: Please do not grieve for me. What a day that will be, just a step and I will be with my Jesus who loves me so much, “For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” Second Timothy 1:12.
A special thank you goes to two of Marcie’s closest friends, Fannie Brown and the late Ida McKim. They have stood beside her though these last difficult years. Also, special thanks to the staff of The Palm’s Nursing Center for their gentle and loving cares for Marcie during her illness and their care for her family.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Davis, Austin Davis, Cody Davis, Dave Regier, Myron Ricketts, Rev. Wayne Sturrey, Rev. Robert Quanstrom and Bob Masters.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
