Sam Campbell passed away on March 16, 2012 in Corpus Christi, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sam was called home to be with the Lord and died peaceably with his wife by his bedside. He was preceded in death by his brother Brooks, as well as his father John M. and Stella Campbell and his mother Emma Hicks.
Mr. Campbell saw action in WWII as the pilot of a B17 Bomber, with numerous missions over Germany and Italy. Later in his military career he went on to fly Search and Rescue aircraft for the USAF during the Korean Conflict. He often told the story of how he became an aviator. Mr. Campbell was standing on the flight line with other gunner trainees enjoying his pipe. The training commander pulled up in a jeep and asked if anyone wanted to learn to fly. The rest of the men thought it was a joke; Sam was the only one to get into the jeep. Having distinguished himself he was separated from the USAF due to a service connected disability. Sam was a loving and generous man who would be hard pressed to say a negative word concerning anyone. His presence will be sorely missed and his sense of humor not easily replaced.
Sam Campbell leaves behind his beloved wife Dianna of twelve years as well as his children Debra and John and a sister Nancy and one granddaughter, Kelly.
