03/05/1946 - 05/18/2022
Born in Brownsville, Texas
Passed away in the comfort of his home and in the presence of loved ones.
He moved to Corpus Christi as a young boy and attended Cunningham Middle School. This is where he met and later married the only woman he would ever love. His wife and sweetheart of 57 years, Adela Hernandez (Avila).
Miguel attended Miller High School where he lettered in baseball as an all-4A catcher. He graduated with the Class of 1964.
Miguel proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. While there, he was assigned to the 3rd Recon unit and part of a small team consisting of 5 Marines. Their mission was to patrol the jungles equipped with minimal fighting gear, seeking to gather enemy intelligence. However, if necessary, they would engage with the enemy while preparing for escape. He received several accommodations that includes a Purple Heart. Miguel received an honorable discharge but never stopped being a proud & devoted Marine.
Mike attended college to become an HVAC mechanic. He worked this profession for over 30 years as a member of the Refrigeration Engineers Society.
The close-knit and loving family that he made with Adela over the next 50 years best defines Miguel. He was a proud husband, father of 3, grandfather of 9, and great-grandfather of 7. Uncle Mike was known to all his nieces and nephews as being someone that they could go to if they needed help. He was helpful in this way to all of his extended family and friends.
Mike loved and spent his retirement his way. With his sweetheart by his side, he spent his last years listening to oldies, going to bingo, and partying with friends and family.
