She was born on August 27, 1925, in Eagle Pass, Texas, to Antonio and Maria Cirilo. Mary was married to her late husband Thomas V. Barrera for 72 years and together parented 13 children. Always dedicated to her family, Mary worked while raising her children and later in life attended college to become a nurse where she worked for the State of Texas, Nursing Homes, and Private Duty.
Mary enjoyed listening to music, talking with her family and friends, had a great sense of humor and was proud of her Native American heritage.
Mary was a devout Catholic and active in the ministries by participating as a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Guadalupanas. Mary also raised her children in the Catholic faith and had a special place in her heart for the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Padre Pio.
In summary, Mary was a loving wife and mother and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Fond memories of and feelings for our mother will always linger in our hearts and minds until the day we are reunited to be with Jesus.
Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband Thomas V. Barrera; and son Jorge Barrera.
Mary is survived by 12 of her children; Gloria Barrera, Sylvia Salinas (Juan), Josie B. Carrillo, Thomas Barrera (Cecilia), Juan Barrera (Esmeralda), Rudy Barrera (Liz), Robert Barrera (Anna), David Barrera, Mark Barrera, Richard Barrera (Concepcion), Joe Barrera (Janis) and Olga Barrera; 34 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
