Leon Guzman Martinez Jr.

On Tuesday, May 26, 2020, Leon G. Martinez Jr., 92, passed away at home with his family by his side. He was born on May 24, 1928 in Clarkwood, TX and was a life long resident of Corpus Christi TX. He left school at an early age to care for his mother and younger siblings. This selfless generosity would define Leon for life. He served in the US Army from 1945 to 1949 and would receive the WW 2 Victory medal Army of Occupation medal Japan. Upon returning to the states Leon would begin a forty year career in the concrete flatwork industry with I.E. Hailey Construction Company. This would lead to his own business, Leon G. Martinez Concrete Construction,’ where he would continue to gain respect from many home builders and general contractors until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Theresa C Martinez ,daughter, Evangelina; sons, Alejandro and Cristobal. Leon is survived by one brother, Manuel Martinez and one sister, Flora Gonzales; children, Leon III (Nancy), Albert, Mary (Mario), Crescencio, Elena (Rodney), Juanita (Mike), Andres, Elsa, Connie and Benny (Margarita) along with numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation and Holy Rosary will be held at Funeraria del Angel, 549 Cheyenne. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park. Due to Covid restrictions services are by family invite only.
