Jose Reyes was married to Elvira Mitchell Reyes. He was very successful in life though the odds stacked up against him. After giving his life to Christ, he served at Gollihar Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Julio Aldape for nearly 20+ years as an usher, and a Sunday school teacher. His unwavering faith kept him confident and cheerful through the good and bad times. He persevered in life moving forward no matter what life brought his way. He worked for over 50 years until his retirement in 2003. He worked 13 years with Braslau's Furniture Store, 11 years at Lacks Furniture Store and assisted in opening new Lacks Store locations in San Antonio and Austin, Texas. After the death of his wife Elvira in 1982, he moved back to Corpus Christi and continued working for Lacks and later returned to the Corpus Christi Town Club in 1988 until his retirement in 2003. He previously worked for the Mustang Club, Wilson Tower, and the Corpus Christi Town Club during the late 1950s to early 1960s as a bartender. He continued bartending for after-hours private parties upon request as he was well known for being an exceptional bartender. After being a widow for 14 years, he married his second wife Alicia Reyes.
