John Gregory Ralph

His rich legacy is carried on by his wife, Adonna Spain, whom he was married to for 35 years. He was the beloved pillar of his family, leaving behind his children Andrea Spain (Brendon, Ryan), Patrick Ralph (Gabby, Allison, Neely, Canaan), Katherine Ralph (Vicky), and Marjorie Ralph (Matt, Hunter, Garrett). His siblings, Brian Ralph and Pat Prestidge, will have fond memories of their brother. Growing up, he was the big brother who looked out for his siblings; from playing sports with his siblings in their youth to conversing weekly in their adulthood.

Predeceased by his parents, John Dewey Ralph and Marjorie Delores Westbrook, he was a beacon of the family, whose memories and love will persist in their hearts.

John exercised his intellectual and athletic interests in the chess team, Latin club, and playing center on the ‘Friars’ football team. He was a devoted Catholic and active member of St. Patrick’s Church, volunteering as an altar boy every service.

After graduating in the class of 1966 from Bishop Lynch High School, John pursued his interest in mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he earned a B.S. in Mathematics in 1974, setting a path for his successful career. His professional journey culminated in his role at Schlumberger, from which he retired in 2009. His natural affinity for critical thinking and analysis was a cornerstone of his profession, and he will be remembered for his dedicated service.

Throughout his life, John resided in various vibrant cities including Waco, TX, Memphis, TN, Houston, TX, New Orleans, LA and finally settling in Corpus Christi, TX. He had a knack for adapting to and embracing new communities, where he shared his appreciation of local cuisine and music with his peers.

John was a man of distinguished tastes. He relished the flavors of crab legs, crawfish, and a well-marinated steak. His favorite drinks included single malt scotch whisky, a testament to his refined palate. His love for music was diverse and all-encompassing, from the tunes of ABBA, Eurythmics, and Blondie to jazz and classic rock. His favorite pastime was playing Wordle, Wing Commander,

and chess. John shared his love of Sci-Fi with his children and will be something that they will forever cherish. When not enjoying series, such as Star Trek, Doctor Who, Stargate, and the Mandalorian, John enjoyed bonding with his grandchildren by playing Wii Sports.

He will be fondly remembered for his jovial nature, sharp intellect, and analytical mind. His love for different cultures and music, complemented by his technical prowess, made him a unique personality. His favorite local spot was Heritage Park, where he’d attend the jazz festival every season, and adding a splash of humor to his wardrobe by his tuxedo print shirt.

John's love extended beyond his family to his beloved cat, Polly. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, leaving a void that can only be filled with cherished memories and lessons shared. We celebrate his life and the joy he brought into our lives and will hold his memory close to our hearts.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:00AM at the Funeraria Del Angel Everhart Chapel located at 4901 Everhart Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas, 78411.
