Joe M. Mendez Jr.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Celia T. Mendez and both of his parents and his siblings, Raul Mendez, Cruz Mendez, Helen Medina, and Beatrice Capetillo,

Joe was a loving husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend who will be missed by all that knew him. He proudly served in the Air Force for 4 years. He retired from NAS-CCAD on August 3, 1997, after many years of dedication. He was very active and played softball with the Senior’s League softball team at North Beach. He also enjoyed playing golf. He was an avid Yankee Baseball fan.

He is survived by his children, Jo Ann T. Mendez, Joe T. Mendez, III (Elizabeth Castellanos), Jimmy T. Mendez (Melissa Riojas) and Mary Jo M. Pena (Mark Anthony); grandchildren, Joe Lorenzo Mendez, IV, Erica Lucia Shephard (Forrest), Jimmy R. Mendez, II, Mark Anthony Pena, II and Morgan Celia Pena; 1 great-grandchild, Miabella Celia Viviana Mendez and one great-grandchild on the way, Kyle Shephard; and his brothers, Rudy Mendez and Frank Mendez, sister, Celia Mendez and numerous nephews and nieces, and his Softball team friends.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Funeraria del Angel Memorial Holly, 3442 Holly Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service and Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2509 Nogales Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78416. On Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
