JoAnne Jones, age 66, passed away on August 10, 2011. JoAnne was born on August 30, 1944 to Howard E. Miller and Annie E. Miller in San Marcos, Texas. She grew up in San Antonio as the eldest of five children, having one sister and three brothers. JoAnne graduated from South San Antonio High School in 1962. She received her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). She returned to school in 1981 as a part-time student, and due to hard work and determination, received her Master’s Degree in Education in the Fall of 1983 from Corpus Christi State University (now Texas A&M University Corpus Christi). While they were attending Southwest Texas State, JoAnne met and fell in love with Edward Jones. They were married in December of 1966 and lived in San Antonio. JoAnne began her teaching career working at Vestal Elementary School in the Harlandale ISD. She taught various elementary grades while at Harlandale ISD from 1966 until May of 1974. At that time, she and her husband moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she began working for the Calallen ISD. JoAnne only worked for Calallen ISD until January of 1975, and took a break from teaching. She then went to work at a Fabrific Sewing Center. JoAnne loved to make clothes for herself, for her nieces, and grandmother. She became the assistant manager while working there. In 1985, she decided to go back to teaching and worked at Oak Park Elementary for Corpus Christi ISD. JoAnne worked at Oak Park for several years and then transferred to Garcia Elementary School, where she completed her teaching career. She retired from Corpus Christi ISD in 2006.
JoAnne was totally dedicated to her family. Her favorite activity was to be with her brothers and sister, nieces and nephews at her families Medina Lake house. She was a selfless, kind, loving and giving person who would do whatever she could to help you. She had two great passions in life: her two Dachshunds, and flowers. She loved to ride into the Hill Country in the Spring and early Summer to see all the wildflowers. JoAnne had a back yard full of all kinds of flowers blooming continually. She had many friends on the e-mail list that she kept in touch with about Dachshund Rescue and all things Dachshund.
Her positive outlook as she courageously battled her disease was a powerful inspiration to her family. JoAnne’s sweet smile will be remembered by all who knew her.
JoAnne is preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Howard Miller of San Antonio; and grandparents, Ivy and Hyman Cole of Corpus Christi.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward Jones of Corpus Christi; her eldest brother, Bill Miller of Portland, Texas; her youngest brother, John H. Miller (Vicky) of Victoria, Texas; her brother, Daniel L. Miller and sister, Julia A. Yunger (Don), both of San Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.
