It is with deep sadness, we announce our loving mother, Joan Anne Gagliano, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 91. She was born on October 17, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Joseph and Anna Wiskotzil. Her joyful heart, quick wit, adorable New York accent, strong independent spirit, and generous nature are remembered by all who knew and loved her. Joan cherished the time she spent with family, traveling in the states and abroad, singing in the choir at First United Methodist, and the numerous pugs who brought her immense joy throughout the years. She held a deep affection for animals, most especially dogs.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Angelo Gagliano, who affectionately referred to her as “Joanie.” Joan was a treasured and devoted mother to Gerard Gagliano (Lee), John Gagliano (deceased), Richard Clement (deceased), Thomas Clement (Rosemarie), Harry Clement (deceased), Larry Clement (Sandra), and Martin Gagliano. She held a special bond with her only sibling Robert “Bobby” Wiskotzil (Daren) who preceded her to heaven.
Grandma Joan was adored by her 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren who brought her great happiness throughout the years. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews who loved her very much. She left lasting memories with each one that they will always carry with them. She enjoyed cooking her delicious “spaghetti and meatballs” for family on Sundays, making personalized birthday cards for her loved ones, binge watching Star Trek (she was a Trekkie) with her grandson, playing online video games, watching classic movies, playing the organ, singing, dancing, and listening to her favorite tunes. Music was a great joy in her life.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to all the nurses and staff at AADI Home Health, most especially from the AADI Hospice Care Team, Eva Rios and Nora Rodriguez, private home provider Dora Sanchez who helped the family care for her until her last moments, and her beloved grandson Miguel (her partner Trekkie), who spent countless hours and days caring for her when needed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 9-11:30am at Funeraria Del Angel, 4901 Everhart Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral mass will follow at 12pm at First United Methodist Church, 900 S. Shoreline, followed by a burial at 2pm at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 Interstate Highway 37. Family and friends will celebrate her life with dinner and fellowship following her burial services.
