Elizabeth "Betty" Caro

She was born in McAllen, Texas on June 11, 1944 to Guadalupe and Jesus Bustos. At a young age the family moved from McAllen, Texas to Corpus Christi, Texas. Betty graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1962. She received a Bachelors in Science from Pan Am University in Edinburg, Texas. Later, she earned her Master’s in Education from Corpus Christi State University. Betty found a passion for teaching, and retired after 40 years. She taught one year for West Oso ISD and spent the rest of her teaching career with CCISD.

She married Lee Roy Caro on October 24th, 1970 in Corpus Christi at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. They shared 53 years of marriage together. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Betty was often found baking delicious cookies, breads, and meals that could be shared with others. She was compassionate, caring and witty. Most of her adult life she was seen at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club as early as 5:30 am. None of this came before supporting and spending time with her six grandchildren. She was their biggest fan.

She was proceeded in death by her father, Jesus Bustos; her mother, Guadalupe Martinez and her niece, Diosel Schaper.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Lee Roy Caro. Her children and grandchildren: (all of Corpus Christi)

Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM with Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
