Dorothy "Dottie" King Jarvis

Dorothy (Dottie) King Jarvis, 95 of Niceville, FL went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 17, 2015. She was born in Del Rio, Texas on February 19, 1920 to Tommy Sylvester (T.S.) King and Ada Elizabeth Stoner King. She had one brother, Tommy Sylvester (T.S.) King, Jr. Both her father and brother were proud graduates of Texas A & M College and commissioned U.S. Army officers.

Dottie was a true Aggie all of her life. She had a wonderful voice and never tired of singing the “Aggie War Hymn.” She grew up in Baytown, Texas where her father was an engineer with the Humble Oil and Refining Company. She graduated from the Robert E. Lee High School, where she loved sports, and was a cheerleader. Following her graduation from high school, she attended the Hockaday Private Girls School in Dallas, Texas. While living in Baytown, she married the love of her life, Arthur Dan (A.D.) Jarvis. They were married in Baytown, Texas February 4, 1939. They had one son, Dan T. Jarvis. Dottie and her family moved to Corpus Christi in 1944.

Besides her family, she genuinely cared for other people. She loved sports, especially baseball. Dottie was a surrogate mother to many a young man who played on several youth baseball teams her husband coached over the years. She has the loudest whistle of anyone in the stands at the games.

She was involved in numerous volunteer positions. Past Presidents of: the Sam Houston Elementary PTA; Emanon Study Club; Golf Center Women’s Association and the Friendship Sunday School Class, First United Methodist Church. Of special importance to Dottie was her “Walk to Emmaus” she experienced at the age of 80.

Her beloved husband passed away in 1982. In 2008, she moved into the Trinity Towers Independent living facility in Corpus. She loved living there and all the wonderful, caring people she knew there. In October, 2013, following deteriorating health conditions, she moved to the Superior Residences Memory Care Facility in Niceville, FL to be close to her son and daughter-in law.

Her mother and father, her mother and father-in law Lillie Bell and Arthur Moses (A.M.) Jarvis of Corpus Christi preceded her in death. Her younger brother, 1Lt. Tommy S. King, Jr. died in WWII combat action outside Mets, France. For his bravery, he was awarded the Silver Star. He is buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold France

Dottie leaves behind a loving son, Colonel Dan T. Jarvis, USAF (Ret.) and his wife Kathleen of Niceville, FL. Also, Three grandchildren, Dr. Jeff Jarvis and wife Kristi of Salado, Texas; Kenny Jarvis and wife Jamie of Dallas, TX and Lynne Jarvis, OTD, of Dallas, Texas. In addition, she leaves three great grandchildren; Sydney and Jeremy Jarvis of Salado, Texas and Connor Jarvis of Dallas.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be a graveside service conducted at the Seaside Memorial Park Cemetery, Corpus Christi, Texas on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Dottie will be buried in a family plot next to her husband. Pastor Brad Kisner, First United Methodist church will be officiating. The family request, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation be made to the First UMC, 900 S. Shoreline Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX, 78401or to the Emerald Coast Hospice 500 W. Redstone Ave., Suite 310, Crestview, Fl. 32536.
