Charles Martin Johnson

Charlie was born on December 12, 1946, in Dodge City, Kansas to Eva Dell Waldroop and Oscar Martin Johnson. As they followed the pipeline for work, the family found themselves in Lubbock, Texas, where he graduated from Lubbock High School, class of 1963. He began Texas Tech University for Industrial Management, but joined the United States Marine Corps on January 4, 1968. Charlie proudly served his country as an infantryman in Vietnam. He completed his duty December 21, 1973, and settled down in Corpus Christi, Texas. Charlie continued his education at CCSU and received his degree in Business Administration. He married his true love, Linda Ann Shaughnessy, on July 21, 1988, and gained his children.

He worked as an investigator for several lawyers throughout his career before the couple retired to their Hat Crick Ranch in Beeville, Texas, in 2004. They raised miniature donkeys, chickens, emus, goats, sheep, peacocks, and even a zebra. He loved working with his hands and he built fences, stone pathways and garden beds. He made beautiful knives, walking sticks and other creations with stone, turquoise and coins. He left us with memories, treasures and adventures to remember him by forevermore.

His life was full of amazing adventures and even better stories. We could write a book, but we’ll just give some highlights:

Hunting in Africa & Alaska, deep sea fishing, scuba diver, 2am nachos, Patriot Guard, pole duckin’, limos in Mexico, onion ring maker, gift giver, Indian motorcycles, treasure hunter and artifact collector.

He was a treasure to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, Pamela Mills & best friend, Gary Richardson. He leaves behind his precious wife, Linda; daughter Jennifer Kuzcaj; daughter Heather & husband Jacen Kubsch; son Ricky & wife Kim Taylor; grandchildren: Coleman, Mari Grace, Madalynn, Harrison, Hudson, Cooper & Carter.
