Carmen Iona Adams

She was born on May 13, 1925 in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Eugene E. Lewis, Sr. and Louisa Mackenzie Lewis, and spent her formative years going to school in Jamaica. Carmen was baptized in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for 40 yrs.

Carmen became a naturalized citizen on April 6, 1960 in Norfolk Virginia. Before moving to Texas in 1965 she was a licensed beautician. Carmen was employed at the Child Care Center on NAS Corpus Christi, TX from 1965 until her retirement in 1989. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, reading, playing bingo, playing roulette and spending time with her family. She was a past member of the NAACP, Deb Mothers Club and ABWA Bluebonnet Chapter. She was a very caring and giving person. Carmen was an amazing Mother; she was also a sister, an aunt, a sister-in-law, a grandma and a friend to many.

She married Carlize Richard Adams, Sr. on December 1, 1950 and of this union came four children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Sylvia Wright and Bonnie Lewis and brother Eugene E. Lewis Jr. Carmen also known as “Tiny” is survived by a sister Norma Lewis in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; her children Richard Adams (Angela), Patricia Adams, Dawn Adams, and Alison Joy Adams (Don) all of Corpus Christi, TX. She is survived by her grandchildren: Richard Scott Adams, Leslie Turner (Russell), LaToya Rodriguez (Arnold), Joshua Adams, Twila Henderson, Mike Henderson, Daniel Collins, Chante Anderson. Dominick Anderson-Parham, great grandchildren Trishan Henderson, Grant Crooms, Ifiyah Balaga, Naomi Henderson, Anthony Giras, Aiden and Addyson Rodriguez, Armani and Alexis Anderson and a host of relatives and friends.

The Adams family would like to thank the staff of New Century Hospice and the physicians and staff of Christus Spohn Cancer Center for their compassion, care and support.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family will be receiving friends at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
