Berta C. Chavana

Berta graduated from Premont High School on May 22, 1953. She also graduated from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi on May 25, 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She also attended Incarnate Word College. She was a bilingual elementary educator for 26 years for the Robstown ISD. In retirement, she served the community by teaching part time in Corpus Christi ISD. She was most happy when she saw the face of a child light up with understanding after explaining in simple terms a complex or difficult concept.

Berta is survived by her husband; Daniel Perez Chavana, son; Daniel Chavana, Jr., and daughter; Debra Chavana Powell.

Pallbearers will be, Daniel Chavana, Jr., Joseph R. Powell, Jesus Armando Cadena, Abel Chavana, Dennis Chavana and Joe Gore.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Funeraria del Angel, 549 Cheyenne Street, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 that same evening. A Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at 9:00 a.m., at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church. Burial will be in Cesario Cadena Cemetery in Palito Blanco, Texas.
