Born in Laredo, Texas
Resident of Corpus Christi since 1974
Alicia Barrera Reyes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully surrounded by love. Her legacy is one of care, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Born to Jose Maria and Aurora Barrera in Laredo, Texas, Alicia devoted her life to caring for others—both in her home and in her career. She began her journey as a bilingual nurse in King City, California, where her tender heart and nurturing touch quickly made her an invaluable part of the community. After moving to Corpus Christi in 1974, she married the love of her life, Jorge Manuel Reyes. They shared 51 beautiful years of marriage, raising a family deeply rooted in love and service.
Alicia continued her nursing career at Memorial Hospital, where her excellence in patient care was recognized with multiple Daisy Awards. Her bedside manner was nothing short of extraordinary—gentle, attentive, and full of grace. She treated each patient like family, always going the extra mile to ensure they felt safe and seen.
Alicia’s deep faith was the steady rhythm of her life. A devoted Catholic, she found comfort, strength, and purpose through her daily prayers—especially the rosary, which she held dear. Her family often found her quietly whispering prayers for her children, grandchildren, and loved ones. Her spiritual devotion was a quiet but powerful force, offering a sense of protection and peace to all who knew her. It was not uncommon for her to say, “I’m praying for you,”—and you knew she truly was.
But Alicia’s greatest gift was the home she created—a warm, welcoming sanctuary that was never without the aroma of home-cooked meals and the sounds of laughter. You never got a chance to feel hungry around her; she made sure of that. Her kitchen was always open, her arms always ready to embrace another. She mothered not just her own children, but countless others—grandchildren, great-grandchildren, school friends, neighbors—her love knew no bounds.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Joe Barrera, Marcelino Barrera, and Robert Barrera. It is with great hope that we envision her reunion in Heaven with her 3 sons who left this earth too soon- Henry, Joey & Michael.
Alicia leaves behind a large and loving family- her remaining children Sam, Patricia, Leticia & Jorge- as well as 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her spirit of kindness, generosity, and care.
To know Alicia was to be nurtured. Her life was a living example of what it means to give from the heart—unceasingly, unconditionally, and with joy. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched and every heart she held.
A visitation for Alicia will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 9:00 AM at Ss Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 3210 South Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A holy rosary will occur at 10:00 AM with a funeral mass beginning at 10:30 AM. A committal service will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
