She was born Karen Lee Benish, daughter of Harold and Dores Benish, in Ukiah California on August 16, 1948, She grew up in Northern California, living in Ukiah, Healdsburg, Gualala, St. Helena, and Rutherford.
After serving as a homemaker until her children were grown, Karen became a small business owner, owning and operating the only service station in St. Helena. Around 1995, she moved to Tucson, Arizona where she received a degree in interior design. In 2000, she moved to Irvine, CA where she lived until she went home to rest in the steadfast love of Jesus Christ her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Benish and Dores (Larson) Benish, and her sister Selma Jean Krahn. All of these she loved dearly, and they, her.
Physically, Karen suffered greatly throughout her life: From undiagnosed Lyme Disease, toxemia poisoning, the loss of a kidney, bipolar disorder, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, to many other conditions too numerous to mention. Finally, she was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Yet, in all these things she was more than conqueror through Christ who loved her (Rom. 8:37). She never complained, never criticized others, and always had a kind word for those she met. There was no one who met her that did not like her. She has a special place in the kingdom of heaven.
