Sociology at the University of California, Irvine, where she conducted
cutting-edge research on social stressors and health. She was awarded
numerous grants and fellowships for her research and was most recently
named a Kavli Fellow by the prestigious National Academy of Sciences.
Jenn was also a dedicated classroom teacher and a generous mentor to
graduate students. Prior to joining the faculty at UCI, Jenn was a
postdoctoral scholar at University of North Carolina, received her Ph.D.
in Sociology and Demography from The Pennsylvania State University, and
worked for several years in the nonprofit sector as a social worker and
public health educator.
Jennifer is preceded in death by her grandparents Stephen and Ursula Buher and Nicholas and Carrie Van Wingerden. Left to honor Jenn and remember her love are her husband, John, and their three children, Liam, Brendan, and Declan; her parents, Steve and Cindy Buher of Winter Garden, FL; sister Gretchen (Scott) Cline and their two daughters of New Albany, OH; brother Chad (Stacey) Buher and their 3 children of Winter Garden, FL; and many extended family members around the country.
