It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Dr. Choong Man "Michael' Kim, of San Clemente, CA, who passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the age of 82 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Michael's life was a testament to strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and passions.
Born on August 8, 1941, to Young Guk Kim and Seo Boon Kim in Seoul, South Korea, Michael brought joy and warmth into the lives of all who knew him. He met his wife, Hyunsook Lee in 1996, and married on August 30, 1997. He was a beacon of light, radiating positivity wherever he went. His infectious laughter and genuine smile lit up any room he entered, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
Micheal's commitment to his loved ones was unparalleled. As a devoted husband, parent, and friend, he poured boundless energy and support into every relationship he cherished. His compassionate nature knew no bounds, and he always went above and beyond to ensure the happiness and well-being of those around him.
Professionally, Michael held a Bachelors Degree from Boston University and a Doctorate degree in Physics from the University of Connecticut. He had a varied past having taught at Northeastern University as a professor of physics, an executive and consultant for such companies as United Technologies, Brunswick Corporation, and Korea Heavy Industries Construction Company (KHIC). He built a successful career as a business leader having founded and developed many companies including Global Material Industries, Glovax Inc., Taeil Media Co., and Medtrack Corporation. His strategic vision, optimism, and leadership were admired by colleagues and peers alike as he held many board of director positions most recently with Visible Assets.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Michael had a voracious love of life. He loved to travel with his family, and was a passionate golfer. His love of the ocean had him spending his retired life between San Clemente, California and Honolulu, Hawaii. Michael embraced life with a sense of adventure and gratitude that inspired all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his wife, Hyunsook Lee, his first son Daniel's (who is deceased) family (Daniel's wife Judy, daughter Sophie and daughter Julia), and his second son Gabriel and his family (Gabriel's wife Emily, daughter Vivian and daughter Penelope).
A funeral and graveside service for Michael will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Pacific View Mortuary Legacy Chapel, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, California 92625. Following the funeral service will be a reception to follow at Bayside Restaurant, 900 Bayside Dr., Newport Beach, California 92660.
