Dr. Leo Francis Kennedy, Passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital, in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Beverley (Sherwood) Kennedy, loving father of Andrea (Leon), Kieran (Laurie) and Andrew Kennedy (Hye Kyung). Cherished grandfather of Cameron, Logan, Olivia, Molly and Addison. Pre-deceased by his father, Francis Ignatius, his mother, Mary Theresa, one brother Edward “Ted” and one nephew Sean. Survived by four loving brothers: Paul (Claire), Dan (Patricia), John, Patrick (Lorraine), beloved sister Mary-Frances (aka Frankie) (Stan) and sister-in-law Christina. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Kingston, Edmonton, Cornwall, and Ottawa. Dr. Leo F. Kennedy was a regulatory veterinarian, employed for many years with the federal department of agriculture, Health of Animals Branch. He was District Veterinarian, in charge of the Cornwall District Office for over 30 years. As such, he was involved in the control and eradication of contagious diseases such as rabies, tuberculosis, brucellosis and hog cholera. Throughout the course of the 1980s, Dr. Kennedy presided over the highest number of brucellosis free listed herds of cattle in Ontario. He made numerous visits to Italy, France and Switzerland in order to accompany shipments of exotic breeds of cattle that were imported into Canada via boat in the 1960s and 1970s. He also ensured the legal importation of many animals at the Cornwall/ Massena port of entry. Dr. Kennedy retired from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( formerly Agriculture Canada) in 1998 after completion of 36 years of dedicated service. Funeral, Tuesday February 17, 2015, for Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter's Church at 11a.m. The family will be in attendance on Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of Funeral.
