It is with heavy hearts that the family of Brian Douglas Long announce his unexpected passing which occurred on Thursday, April 13 at his home in South Glengarry, Ontario at the age of 79. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Brian was the son of the late Nelson and Ruth Long.
Brian is survived by his loving wife Brenda (nee Stewart), children Doug (Lisa) and Marianne (Dan), grandchildren Emma (Liam) and Avery/Ryan, Jackson and Tyler, brother David (Laurie), nieces Stacey and Jennifer and their families.
Brian was born in Stoney Creek, Ontario, where his love of sports of all kinds found its root. He spoke fondly of his time in Boy Scouts, and he eventually earned the distinction of Eagle Scout. Later in life, he and his family relocated to Cornwall, Ontario, where Brian spent many sunny afternoons on the links at Summerheights and Cornwall Golf Clubs, and had recently discovered a love of curling. Brian was bold with his opinions on all subjects, and loved the art of the debate, much to Brenda’s chagrin.
Family and Friends are invited to share memories of Brian at a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, April 25 from 2-5pm, to be held at the Cornwall Golf and Country Club (6740 Sutherland Ave, Cornwall).
Donations in Brian’s memory can be made to Scouts Canada or a charity of your choosing. To share online condolences with the family, please visit www.lahaiesullivan.ca.
