Sherry Smith passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, after a long battle with cancer, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. Mrs. Smith was born Thursday, June 20, 1946 to the late Theodore John and Lorrene Hardy Jr. in Bradford, PA.
Sherry was employed for 27 years with Guardian Industries in a job she loved. She graduated from Bradford Area High School in Bradford, PA and then attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI where she received a bachelor's degree in four years and one term even while holding a full-time job in her late forties. She held a private pilot's license and achieved nearly 200 hours of command time. She was an avid traveler and had passed through all 50 states domestically and several international countries throughout her lifetime. Mrs. Smith enjoyed reading, learning languages, playing guitar, and singing with her friends Wayne and Lisa. She was a painter, a seamstress, a great cook and an entertainer. She was known to play and sing at jams in Yuma, AZ and Belmont, MS with her American and Canadian friends. Sherry's favorite travel companions were her husband Paul, Sallie, Betty, and Margaret. Before and during her career Sherry lived in many states including, PA, NV, WV, NY, IN, MI, WA, GA, CO, WA, SC, and finally MS. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Corinth, MS. Mrs. Smith always said she lived a charmed existence and that her whole life was a gift. She did just that and Yes It Was!
Mrs. Smith wishes to send a special "Thank You" to Dr. Sylvia Richey, Dr. Micah Monaghan, Jerri Simpson, Jenna Miller, Kim, Cory, Paula, and all the healthcare professionals at West Clinic for their love, support, expertise, and compassion. A very special "Thank You" to Cathy Byars, Venechie Barnett, and the Vital Care Hospice team in Corinth, MS.
Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and a sister Candy Bush of Corinth, MS.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her cherished husband of twenty years Paul Smith; a son Russell Smith (Julia); three precious granddaughters, Taylor Lucille, Lillian Catherine, and Mary Russell Smith all of Corinth, MS; two brothers, Ted Hardy (Robyn) of Derrick City, PA and Thomas Hardy (Cheryl) of Wirtz, VA; one sister, Joyce Holys of Las Vegas, NV; nephews, John Hardy (Ashley) of Lexington, SC, Stephen Hardy, Shane Hardy, and Conner Hardy all of Wirtz, VA, DJ Holys of OK, and Jay Bush of Killeen, TX; nieces, Allison Wiles (Ted) of Baltimore, MD, Tracey Holys of Las Vegas, NV, and Nanna Bush (John Hupfer) of St. Mary's, PA; a brother-in-law, Ken Bush of Corinth, MS; Special friends Pam and Wayne, Cookie and Everett, Jim and Sylvia, Don and Lee, Sara, Kathy and Lance. Her special Canadian friends the Sime's and Ballan-Campbell's. As well as a host of extended relatives and friends.
There is a Celebration of Life Service scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Corinth, MS beginning at three o'clock in the afternoon with Rev. Josh Shipman and Rev. Deacon Mary Howard King officiating. The family will accept friends beginning at one o'clock in the afternoon until service time.
