Richard Lee Spargo, 80 passed away February 18, 2016 in Killeen, TX. He was born on September 22, 1935 in Franklin, Nebraska, to the late Everett and Rosa Spargo. He was born and raised in Franklin where he was the youngest of seven children. Richard attended/graduated from Nebraska State College in Kearney, Nebraska.
He proudly served in the U.S National Guard and the U.S. Army for 22 years where he served in Vietnam. During his service he earned the Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, State Service Medal, Aircraft Service Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm.
He moved his family to Copperas Cove, Texas in 1977. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 21 years when he retired.
Survivors include his four children; son Scott Spargo and his wife, Tina, daughter Renee Gearhart, son Mark Spargo and his wife Donna, daughter Theresa Bruni and her husband Pete; 11 grandchildren; Katrina and Krista Tipton, Jacey Spargo, Stephanie Middleton, Shelly Gearhart, Amber Segura, Mark Spargo Jr., Michael Noell, Daniel Votion, Jordan and Ryan Bruni. He also had 11 great-grandchildren. One surviving brother Roy Spargo.
Mr. Spargo loved Nebraska Cornhuskers Football and was a proud supporter of the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs Football.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove from 5-7pm, memorial service will be Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 11:00am at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors.
