Sok was born to Tan Pov and Leum Chen on September 20, 1952, in a small village in Cambodia. He was the second-born out of 10, and was the first of his siblings to go to school. Sok took pride in his education from an early age and began working as a security guard to pay his tuition. In 1980 Sok met his wife, Rom Phath, and they married later that year. They were happily married for 42 years.
In 1989 Sok and Rom moved from the Khao-I-Dang Refugee Camp to southern California with their children Rann, Soeuth, and Ra. Over the next several years they welcomed two more children, Pear and Narong, and opened a successful Donut and Chinese Food business in Long Beach.
In 2004 the family relocated to Tyler, Texas, where they opened several more donut shops and restaurants ranging from West Texas to Southern Louisiana. Sok took great pride in hard work and his family. He could always be found either working or scouting out new business locations. He was dedicated to providing a better life for his children, and to helping others achieve success. After establishing a successful business, he would train other Cambodian immigrants to take over so that they could build lives for their families as well. Rom and Sok sponsored the majority of their family members to move to the United States.
Sok is survived by his wife, Rom Phath, his five children, Rann, Soeuth, Ra, Pear, and Narong, and five grandchildren, Zacary, Nicholas, Laska, Austin, and Ichika. He is also survived by his children-in-law, Philen Kim, Sothea Chhoeng, Ichiro Kurokawa, and Joe Shipley.
Sok’s memorial service will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 2pm, at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell Texas. Following the funeral service will be a committal service in Rolling Oaks Memorial, 400 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, TX 75019.
