Robert J. Dunn

Robert J. Dunn, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and pillar of his community, passed away on May 15, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on June 27, 1933, Robert's life was a testament to love, faith, and service.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Cecilia Dunn, known affectionately as Peggy, with whom he shared 52 years of unwavering love and partnership. He is survived by his daughters Kathleen Vassar, Margaret McBride (the late Daniel McBride), Mary Dunn (Rick Doane), Theresa Weiser (Michael Weiser), and Coleen Brunken (Michael Brunken). His legacy further lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Connor Vassar, Ryan Vassar, Shane Vassar; Christopher McBride (Thalia D’Angelo), Austin McBride, Michaela McBride; Shannon Bunken, Sean Brunken; Shayla Doane, Matthew Doane; and Michael Weiser Jr..

Robert's life was defined by his deep Catholic faith, which served as a guiding light through difficult times. His strong sense of family was evident in the love and support he showered upon his daughters and grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with them, finding joy in their achievements and strength in their presence.

An avid enthusiast of fitness activities such as running, rowing, and golf, Robert embraced a healthy lifestyle with vigor and determination. He approached each day with a zest for life that inspired all who knew him.

For over 55 years, Robert was the esteemed owner of the Terrance Inn, where he welcomed guests with warmth, hospitality, and a genuine sense of community. His dedication to his business and his patrons was unwavering, leaving an indelible mark on all who crossed its threshold.

A proud veteran of the US Navy, Robert served his country with honor and distinction. His commitment to defending freedom and upholding the values of patriotism was a source of pride for his family and community.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at D’Andrea Bros. Funeral Home, 99 Oak Street, Copiague, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at St. Martin of Tours RC Church at 9:30 am, followed by interment at The Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Schools of St. Mary’s Scholarship Fund in Manhasset, in honor of Robert's commitment to serving others. Though Robert may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his kindness, compassion, and unwavering love. May he rest in eternal peace.
