John was born in Brooklyn to his late parents, George and Angelina, and here is where he was raised with his five siblings. Through family, John was introduced to his future bride, the former Jill Russo. When John returned from his service in the Army, the couple married on October 13th of 1946 and started their married life in Brooklyn, welcoming their first two of their three children. They moved to Copiague in 1956, buying their home and raising their family.
A proud Army veteran serving in World War II, John was part of the troops landing at Normandy, France. Wounded twice, he was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
John was retired from his long career with Bell Systems, which ultimately became AT&T. He was a 61-year member of the Knights of Columbus, a 3rd Degree Knight; and a member of the American Legion.
His son, George, in a few words, recalls his father as “the best” - A man who was well-liked by all who had the opportunity to meet him. John had no bad habits, held a positive attitude and always found the good in everything. John was a genuinely hard-worker, maintained strong family values and always stood by his family.
A true Yankees’ fan, John loved to play ball. He also loved to dance. He and his wife, Jill; who were married 71 years when she passed, enjoyed dancing so much that no matter where the music struck, they were both up on the dance floor.
John is predeceased by his beloved Jill; his parents, George and Angelina; and his siblings – Vinnie, Connie, Rose, Millie and Josephine. He leaves his children – George (and Bess); Joseph (and Valerie); and Roseann (and Fran) Przyjemski; his grandchildren – Genesis, Dr. Zach, Jonathan, Nathan, Linnea, Kristyn and Christine; and his great-grandchildren - Easton, Cameron, Brandon, Shane, Vivianna, Hope and Sienna.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Thursday, January 23rd from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, January 24th at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption R.C.
