On the morning of July 8, 2022, Ervin died at the age of 95.
He was born and raised in the Minnesota River Valley and grew up on a tenet farm. At 12 years of age he was hitching up the horses and cultivating not only at the home place but also on neighboring farms. Hunting, fishing and gathering were essential to the family’s survival during the tough years of the depression. He joined the Navy during the last year of high school and served on Guam during WW2.
After returning from the war, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy, and they moved to Minneapolis to live. They raised their three children and continued to provide loving support and friendship to them to the very end. Erv’s amazing memory allowed him to prosper in the automotive world where he eventually became the Parts and Service Manager for a major dealership.
Despite his declining eyesight, crippling arthritis and hearing loss, Erv continued to live in the dream house that he and Dorothy had built. He gradually required more and more help from his children and neighbors but did not want to leave the legacy he had had created with his bride who was taken from him several years prior from cancer. He was blessed and died in his sleep in his own home. Many thanks to the help provided by the Hospice program.
He is survived by his three children, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service for friends, neighbors and co-workers of Ervin will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 10:00 am at Gearhart Funeral Home (11275 Foley Blvd. NW., Coon Rapids, MN).
An additional Celebration of Life Gathering for extended family will be held in October.
