William "Bill" "Willie B" Bernard Kahn

William (Bill) Bernard Kahn, of Conroe, Texas, passed away on June 13, 2016, at the age of 62. He was born on July 9, 1953, to Melba and Bernard Kahn, in Conroe, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved son, Zachary (Zak) Alan Kahn. Also predeceased by his father-in-law, Lawrence Schilhab. Bill’s grandparents were the late William Foster and Virginia A. Newton. He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, his wife of 43 years, Nancy Schilhab Kahn, and their two children; Justin Lee Kahn of Houston, and Hailey Kahn Maruna and husband Dean of Dallas. He also leaves behind his three cherished grandchildren (who affectionately called him “B”); Payton Anna, Preston Field, and Parker Zachary Kahn, all of Schulenburg, Texas. Bill is also survived by his sister, Virginia Ann Kahn Coogler and husband Keith of Conroe, and their daughters Chelsea and Heidi, as well as his mother-in-law, Virginia Schilhab of Conroe. He also enjoyed the love and friendships of a host of brothers and sisters through marriage, and their extended families.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Conroe and graduated from Conroe High School in 1971. He went on to pursue a BBA from Sam Houston State University. He married Nancy on June 9, 1973, and placed her at the center of his life from that day forward. Through 43 years of marriage, Bill adored, honored and cherished his Nancy.

In 1975, he began his career in oil and gas real estate by working at his family business in the oilfields of Sour Lake, Texas. Those oilfield days were the highlight of his twenties, and the roughnecks of the oilfield taught him much about life and the oil business, which he applied in his future oil-related ventures.

A convert to Catholicism, Bill had a strong devotion to his faith, and to God. Family was important to him. His three children were the focus of his life. He married into a large extended family, and he looked forward to family celebrations during holidays and special occasions. He was a doting grandfather, and loved nothing more than spending time with the three Ps, and he had a unique nickname for each of them.

Bill had a huge heart! It was important to him to maintain ties with old friends from high school and beyond. He took extra pride in befriending the friends of his three children; and he was genuinely interested in what they were doing and what they accomplished. Many of them were given nicknames, too.

Bill loved the outdoors, especially during the years he deer hunted with his family and friends in Uvalde, New Mexico, or Fredericksburg. At the ranch in Fredericksburg, it was his mission to teach Nancy to call a turkey, Hailey to put a worm on a fish hook, Justin to gut a deer, and Zak to drive the jeep. Being an avid sports fan; he anxiously awaited football in the fall and baseball in the spring and summer. However, his most enjoyable sports’ outings were when his sons were the participants. He never missed a game!

He also had a deep love for music! Some of his best times were sitting around the campfire at the deer camp or the Cinco K Ranch listening to his favorite tunes of “Willie, Waylon, and the boys”. Although he sang a little off-key, he enjoyed singing to the music of friends strumming their guitars. Sitting in his rocking chair with his children or grandchildren on his lap was perhaps his favorite time to sing, especially when he got them to laugh hysterically from his silly, made-up lyrics.

Honorary pallbearers are: Justin Kahn, Preston Kahn, Parker Kahn, Dean Maruna, Larry Schilhab, Michael Schilhab, and Patrick Schilhab.

Visitation for Bill will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Metcalf Funeral Chapel with a vigil service and rosary to follow. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, at 11:00 am at St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 26777 Glen Loch Drive, The Woodlands, Texas, 77381, with interment to follow at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe.
