When Trey Holland walked into the room, those in his company felt energy, an enthusiastic spontaneity. This was just one example of who Trey was and how he impacted those around him. Trey was a clever and gregarious person who always sought out the finest attributes in other people. It was as if Trey wanted to share all of their experiences, revel in their lives, and celebrate their discoveries. Trey was tireless and had boundless enthusiasm that would serve him well throughout his life.
He was the son of Walter Homer Holland, Jr & Sharon Lynn Perryman Holland. Trey grew up in many places around the world. He was always ready with a good joke; he grew up to be quite a humorous person. While some who knew Trey might describe him as an idealist, his friends and family understood well that Trey was always in pursuit of life's endless possibilities and opportunities available to him.
As children, Trey and Christine were each other's best friends during the family's adventures worldwide, including Iran, Lebanon, Singapore. Stateside, Trey would often create mischief with his cousins, Myles, Bethena and April Sherman, and Johnny, Robin, and Allison Jones. In addition, Trey was always a joyous child and was the central person in his family to bring humor and fun to the family. These traits served Trey well in his adult life and, along with his wit, outgoing personality, and understanding of others, drew the admiration of many who knew him.
Trey empathized and identified with a vast array of people and personality types as a young boy. This quality drew him into a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. Trey was intelligent and had little trouble getting along with his peers. He was almost always the first to jump in when playing games or participating in other childhood activities. For example, Trey participated in the Boy Scouts in Iran, where he met his lifelong friend, David Carter. Trey could find amusement with almost any activity he and the many childhood friends he shared might discover.
Trey responded enthusiastically to any new project during his high school years and regularly searched for one adventure after another. He graduated from Katy High School in 1981. School often became just an extension of playtime for Trey, thanks to his ability to turn anything into a game. Classmates considered Trey a good friend, knowing that they could go to him for just about anything when necessary. He made many enduring friendships during his high school years, particularly with David McCaleb and Rob and Jeff Saville.
Trey had a talent for making acquaintances quickly, which brought him an endless stream of friends. In addition, Trey was very sociable and could blend without effort into any social group. Assertive and outgoing, Trey was easy to know and demonstrated a deep concern for others. He was empathetic to the people around him, and throughout his life, he made many, many friends. While growing up, some of his best friends were his cousins, the Shermans, the Jones, and the Hollands. Later in life, if Trey counted you as a friend, you were his best friend.
Trey's skill at "building bridges" played an essential role in his ability to make his new family happy. He was quite sensitive towards Theresa's needs, showing his constant concern and fondness. Trey was tenderhearted and sensitive, qualities that served him well in helping to nurture his family. Trey loved being married and frequently told Theresa so. He always made Theresa feel like a princess. He was not afraid to show his love and devotion to his wife.
Trey was a natural and attentive parent who was willing to provide his family with all sorts of new and exciting experiences. For Trey, parenting was a gratifying and enjoyable part of his life. Trey was blessed with two stepsons, Heath and Evan Salsiccia. Trey's skill at understanding, his sensitivity to their needs, and his gift for gentle persuasion enabled him to find help to guide the young men through any problem or situation that might crop up.
Trey was uplifted by new ideas and was excited by life's possibilities, which made him an exceptional worker. His primary occupation was within the oil/drilling profession. He was employed for Techniques International for the last 12 years. Trey was enterprising, inventive and working against deadlines seemed to energize him. Trey had the uncanny ability to identify a win/win solution to just about any problem, possibly because of his gift for insight. Trey was dedicated to building Techniques' business. In the 12 years he worked with Techniques, Theresa could only coax Trey to take one week of vacation. He loved his coworkers fiercely and always wanted to be available if needed.
Trey derived much satisfaction from participating in life. He loved a wide variety of activities and took advantage of the opportunity to pursue numerous hobbies. His favorite pursuits were hunting, fishing, boating, and golf. Trey had a knack for multi-task to create time for all of his favorite pastimes. However, Trey's ever-present concern for others always took precedent.
Trey's love of improvising in his daily life was a perfect fit for his enjoyment of traveling. His favorite vacations were not planned. Traveling casually fit his personality well. Although, he traveled for work almost as often. Excited about seeing changing scenery and constantly looking for the enjoyment life could offer, Trey took his vacations seriously, well, as seriously as he possibly could. Favorite holidays included Nicosia, Cyprus, where the family stayed while seeking refuge during the conflict in Lebanon, and the many snow skiing vacations he took with family and friends.
On January 18, 2022, Trey Holland passed away at his father's home in The Woodlands, Texas. Trey fought a brave and heroic battle against cancer. There was always a particular style and inventiveness to Trey. He was a dynamic, self-expressive person who was forever looking to celebrate the endless possibilities life had to offer. He had a knack for being clever, creative, and witty, and for others, he was a joy to be around. While he was often fiercely independent, it seemed as if many others looked to Trey Holland for friendship, inspiration, wisdom, and even courage. Trey was always more than willing to share life's experiences with his loved ones.
