Stephen “Steve” Edward Taylor, beloved patriarch and founder of Service Electric and SD Technical Systems, returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 25, 2024 after a brief yet valiant battle with cancer. He was 82. He was born August 7, 1942 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He was a treasured son to Guy and Emma “Dee” Taylor who preceded him in death. Steve had an older sister Betty Lou Taylor who died before his birth and he is survived by his loving sister Barbara Ann Holst, née Taylor. Steve was married at a young age to Gwen Elson, née Beck, who was the mother of his children. Following their divorce, he was married for a brief time to Trisha Davilla.
His greatest legacy is the family he raised. Steve will be forever remembered by his eldest son, Steven Wayne Taylor and his wife, Debbie, and their children Cody and Cole; his daughter Stephany Ann Williams and her husband, Jeff, and their children Gunnar, Caroline, and Jadon; and, his son Michael Edward Taylor and his wife, Carrie. At the time of his passing, Steve had three great-grandchildren, Maddox, Oliver, and Brooks, and his first great-granddaughter is expected soon.
Steve moved his family to Houston in 1978, where he became a proud business owner known for his exceptional skill as a master electrician. He later moved to Bacliff, Texas, and retired in 2015. His work endures across the greater Houston region. Steve believed in the importance of hard work, and he instilled that same strong work ethic in his children.
Steve was an avid fisherman, talented craftsman, and dedicated billiard player, often competing in a league with his son, Michael. He played roller hockey and raced cars in his youth and later enjoyed riding bikes and playing tennis with his daughter, Stephany. When asked, he’d say his favorite musical artist was Elton John and his favorite holiday was Christmas. But his greatest interest was always his family.
The visitation for Stephen Taylor will be held at 10 a.m. with the memorial service to follow at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Restoration Church in Montgomery, Texas. He will be laid to rest Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Rosemont Cemetery in Wichita Falls, Texas where he will reside alongside his father, mother and sister. Flowers may be sent to Cashner Funeral Home & Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Jadon Williams, Gunnar Williams, Jeff Williams, Michael Taylor, Steven Taylor and Cole Taylor.
