Stanley Michael Craig

Stanley Michael Craig, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, son, grandfather, and friend to many, took his place in heaven on Saturday, November 16th, one day before his 81st birthday. He was born to Hugh and Evelyn Craig in Waco, Texas on November 17, 1943.

Stan grew up in Coolidge, TX and was a 1962 graduate of Coolidge High School, where he excelled in both academics and athletics. He attended Baylor University and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting and Finance in 1965. In 1968 Stanley married his first wife Davis Nell Ford. Thereafter, Stanley honorably served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he furthered his education, earning a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from Trinity University in 1972.

For over 50 years, his exceptional business acumen led him to the founding and operation of many successful businesses and hospitals in the Houston and Conroe areas. His sons, Mike and Darren were fortunate to have spent 17 years working with their father, as owners and operators of Ditch Witch of Houston. Stan extended his knowledge and passion for business by serving in leadership roles on the Baylor University Hankamer School of Business board and as a Deacon and Chairman of the Finance Committee at First Baptist Church of Conroe for many years.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Suzanne, his children: Mike and Julie Craig, and Darren and Carly Craig, stepchildren: Paul and Michelle Bischof and Heather Bischof, his 8 grandchildren: Hannah, Jack, and Dylan Granger, Emily, Amanda and Drew Craig, Levi and Ellee Bischof; his sister, Charlotte and her husband Joe Thompson, niece and nephew: Amy and Chris Roden, Craig and Stacey Thompson, and all those who knew and loved him.

Stan will be remembered by family as a faithful, loving, inspiring, and compassionate man. His love for all things Baylor University was unmatched and he was so proud many of his grandchildren followed in his footsteps. He's affectionately remembered by his grandchildren as "Do-Daddy" because he could fix anything and was always doing something. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, dedication, and hard work.

The entire Craig family thanks Dr. Shane Simpson, Amedisys Hospice, Houston Methodist ALS clinic, and everyone who prayed for and cared for Stan. Your compassion and guidance during these past few years was invaluable.

A celebration of life honoring Stan will be held on Monday, November 25th, at First Baptist Church of Conroe. Rev. Chuck Gartman will officiate. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 2:00, followed immediately by a memorial service and a reception following in Herrington Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your church or favorite charity.
