Sharon was born in San Antonio, and her career as a teacher began there after graduating from Baylor University. She taught 40+ years across multiple elementary and middle school age groups and was named Teacher of the Year in 1998 before retiring as a college professor. Sharon was an accomplished author of textbooks and short stories, but her greatest love was spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Bourgeois and Virginia Bourgeois; her sister, Patricia Thomas; and her husbands, Robert Butler (father of her children Dawn and Kristin) and Jim Richardson. Sharon is survived by her brother Bob Bourgeois (Tina), her children Dawn Spikes (Tracey) and Kristin Braaksma (Steve), her five grandchildren (Grant Spikes, Trent Spikes, Cade Spikes, Caroline Spikes, and Robert Braaksma), and four nieces and nephews (Kim Thomas Kelly (Scott), Mike Thomas, Brett Thomas, and Courtney Mount (Colton).
A Memorial Service will be held at Champion Forest Baptist Church on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 10:00 AM. There will be a private graveside service for family following.
