The youngest of four children, born to Francis and Helen O’Bryan on May 19, 1938, in Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Patricia Crow, Francis O’Bryan, and Daniel O’Bryan.
Rosemary met Ralph Estes on Valentine’s Day 1964 where he “took one look at her in that green pantsuit, smoking a Pall Mall and that was that”. They were married April 17, 1964. Rosemary and Ralph were married 48 years before his passing in 2013. She is survived by her children Jane Estes, Susan Estes-Johnson, and Erin Miles. She had three devoted sons-in-law, Eric Lloyd, Harry Johnson, and William “Chip” Miles. Nothing compared to her love of being Gammy to Everley, Maeve, and Jacey Estes-Lloyd, Sara and Kenyon Johnson, and Hunter & Rozalyn Miles.
Rosemary graduated from Brazosport High School, Freeport, Texas in 1956. She served as a member of the band and President of the Future Nurses. Following high school, she attended Sam Houston State University where she could often be found by the jukebox in the student center.
Rosemary retired from the Department of Human Services in 2000 after many years of providing emergency benefits to the community. She routinely kept personal care items in her desk for her clients in need. Rosemary served her community well beyond her career; she was a lifetime member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), volunteered as a Golden Acres Elementary room representative and PTA President, Sam Rayburn High School band parent, and served on the St Peter’s Episcopal Church Vestry in Pasadena, Texas where she was a member for many years.
She was known for her love of hats and jewelry, holding babies and dogs, and any kind of ice cream. When not visiting with her grandchildren, she could often be found reading a romance novel, playing mahjong, and watching The View.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research, The American Heart Association, or a non-profit of your choosing. Memorial service arrangements are pending.
