Nelda Ray Watson Battenfield

In loving memory of Nelda Ray Watson Battenfield, 88 years old of New Caney, TX. Nelda passed away at home suddenly on Monday, April 14, 2025. She was born on August 11, 1936 in Centralia, Trinity County, Texas to W.H. “Buddy” Watson and Sarah Parks Watson.

Nelda was survived in death by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Chris Battenfield and Tim and Gina Battenfield; grandchildren Natalie Hunt and James Hunt, Nathan Battenfield, Lauren and Casey Wilcox, Korina Hilburn, CeCe Hilburn, and Cameron Keen; great-grandchildren Rylan, Kylee, and Taylor Battenfield, Troye Hunt, and Max and Daisy Wilcox; sisters Dorothy Childers of Emory, TX Wilma Williams of Lufkin, TX, Carolyn Spears of Hudson, TX, Debbie Reid of Lufkin, TX and brother Jerry Mike Watson of Hudson, TX.

Nelda was preceded in death by her husband Edmon Battenfield, great-granddaughter Rain Lynn Hunt, brothers Bob Watson of Diboll, TX, Joe Ed Watson of Hudson, TX, Pat Watson of Hudson, TX, and sister Mary Watson Brausell of Hudson, TX.

Nelda worked for New Caney ISD for 27 years and retired at 63. She loved her family and had a generous heart. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids like they were her own, always willing to help them in any way. She loved her flowers and loved watching her TV shows.

There will be a celebration of life for her and her husband on a date to be determined in the future.
