A Celebration of Life will be Thur, Dec. 15, 2022 at 3:00PM with the Reverend Doyle Ives officiating. A visitation will be held from 1-3PM at Metcalf Funeral Home. Additional memorial services and graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 20th at 11AM with the Reverend Sally Shaw, at Morrison Chapel Cemetery, in Wedowee, Alabama under the direction of Benefield Funeral Home, 17624 US 431, Wedowee, Alabama.
Mavis graduated in 1939 from Munford High School in Munford Alabama. George and Mavis married one week after Pearl Harbor on Dec. 13, 1941, their lives together being greatly effected by WWII. After the war ended, they started their family and Mavis spent the next chapter of her life caring for everyone. In 1975, Mavis was chosen as one of first Teacher’s Aides at Anderson Elementary School where she taught for 15 years, loved and respected by her peers. She was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Hoyt Adams and her mother Mary Ellen Adams, two brothers, Bobby Adams and Terrell Adams.
She is survived by her husband of 81 years, George Truman Waters, three sons, David A. Waters, Joel and Kathy Waters, Steven and Nancy Waters, as well as her daughter Rebecca Waters Kimbro Shaddix. She is also survived by her two sisters Johnny Sue Craton and Mary Girtman. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews are also left to cherish her memory.
