It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Martha Garcia Salazar, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on October 15, 2024, in Montgomery, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on July 29, 1934, in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico.
Martha was known for her delicious homemade Mexican dishes. She shared her love in every meal she prepared, especially her signature flour tortillas, which brought joy and comfort to family and friends. Her kitchen was a gathering place, filled with the aromas of her frijolitos, chorizo con huevos, carne guisada, tamales at Christmas time, buñuelos on New Year's Eve, and so many other mouthwatering dishes.
In addition to her love for cooking, she had a talent for gardening and a green thumb. Her home was surrounded by blooming flowers and lush plants that she nurtured with care and dedication. Watering her flower garden every morning filled her with joy.
She was a gracious host, known for her joy in family and social gatherings, her Christmas parties were a treasured tradition. She loved decorating for Christmas. She welcomed her church groups and faithfully hosted their annual Christmas gatherings. It was her immense joy to share her beautifully decorated home with others.
She was a devout woman. She loved God. Martha founded and hosted a weekly prayer group in her home, she started this tradition in San Antonio, Texas over 40 years ago and continued it in Montgomery Texas, uniting friends. Her unwavering commitment to fellowship, prayer, and community was a passion. Through her prayers and encouragement, she became a source of strength and inspiration for many.
Martha is survived by her children, Mario Salazar of Houston TX, Martha Buono and husband Scott of Belle Isle FL, Javier G. Salazar and husband Christopher of Media PA, Robert Salazar, and wife Terri of Charlottesville VA. Grandchildren; Erica Salazar and Eric Young of Boston MA, Jessica and Chad Miller of Richmond VA, Scott and Lindsay Buono of Belle Isle FL, Tayler Buono of Nashville TN, Chelsea and Omar Yanez of Houston TX, Elizabeth Salazar of Media PA, Bobby and Micaelah Salazar of Waynesboro VA and Neil Salazar and Maggie Zibas of Knoxville TN. Great grandchildren Elian Salazar Young, Eisley, Harper and Amelia Miller, RJ and Cor Buono and Arianna Yanez. Sister Dora Garcia Lozano of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, many beloved nieces and nephews, and countless others who were blessed to have known her.
Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Mario Espinoza Salazar, son Armando Salazar, father Felipe Garcia, Mother Maria de Jesus (Jessica) Rodrigez, sisters Maria Zapopan (Pita) Garcia Haro, Elida Garcia Tristan, Natividad (Tata) Garcia Fernandez, and Brother Ramon Garcia.
Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the numerous lives she touched. She taught us resilience and the importance of family. We mourn her loss and celebrate her life. We are forever grateful for the time we had with her. Martha, Mami, Abu, we miss you, we love you, and we are at peace knowing you are with our dad and your son in the presence of Jesus.
A private service will be held for close family and friends. Instead of flowers, the family encourages those who wish to honor her memory to plant a flower or share a meal with loved ones, keeping her spirit of love and hospitality alive.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though she die, yet shall she live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
