Kathy was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister Linda Diane Finley. She is survived by her brother, Robert Charles Musgrove and wife, Lisa; Known as “Auntie” to many including her nieces Jackie Finley Wieghat and husband Jason, Mallary Brown and husband Alvin; nephews Bobby Joe Finley and wife Crystal, and Chad Musgrove and wife Kelly. Great-nieces, Katelyn and Chloee Finley, Alyssa Massey, Maddie and Molly Musgrove, Kyndall, Kynadi, and Kynsli Wieghat, and Mila Fay Brown. Great-nephews, Colton Finley, Ian and Seth Brown. Other special family members include David Finley and Vicki Musgrove. She is also survived by her very dear friends who are like family Pandora Burnett, Loretta Kelly, Beverly Dishman, and Nancy Thomas Ward.
Her family would like to thank Pandora Burnett (“Dodie”) for the unwavering love and support that she showed to Kathy (“Kat Marie”) for 38 years. Pandora was a part of most of the highs and lows of Kathy’s life and loved her without end. Just as she has been there for her over the years, Dodie was with her in her final days and when she took her last breath. Their friendship was truly one of Kathy’s biggest blessings.
In the final months of her life, she was shown so much compassion and love by her special friend LeeAnn Perry, and Kathy’s family will be forever thankful for the genuine care and love that LeeAnn not only shared with Kathy, but the family as a whole.
Kathy graduated from Conroe High School in 1973 and later from Sam Houston State University in August 1985 with a Bachelor of Social Work from the College of Criminal Justice. Upon graduating, she earned a full fellowship at the University of Texas in Austin, where she continued her study of Social Work. After leaving Austin, Kathy went to work for Montgomery County, where she was an Adult Probation Officer for 12 years and finished her career as a Juvenile Probation Officer. She happily retired from Montgomery County in 2011.
Kathy was a member and attended the Trail of Life Cowboy Church. She took great pride in being of Cherokee descent and spent countless hours researching genealogy. Many people turned to her for information on family lineage. She loved retirement and spent a quiet life in the country with her animals, whom she loved as her “children”. After retirement, her days were spent reading, caring for her Mother, watching soap operas, and enjoying the simple life. She called her nieces and nephews her “kids” and was known as the family photographer. A special tradition she shared with her great nieces was Tea Parties at Aunties, where they would dress up, drink tea, and eat cookies. Kathy was most grateful for her love of the Lord and her relationship with her Mother. She will be greatly missed, but her family finds peace knowing that she is now pain free with Jesus and spending her days with her Daddy, Mama, and little sister Diane again.
