Jimmie was raised in the Houston area and graduated from Reagan High School in the Houston Heights. By trade Jimmie was in the construction business, starting with Spaw Glass and retiring from Gamma Construction as a Superintendent. In his late 30’s Jimmie worked with Spaw Glass as the company constructed Delta Downs in Louisiana, this endeavor lead to Jimmie moving to Vinton, LA. While in Vinton, he served on the Vinton Harbor and Terminal Board from October of 2000 until February of 2015. Brother Jimmie Carroll Ballard P.M. is a Master Mason who became a member of Vinton Lodge 364 of the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana on July 6, 1999. He advanced and served as Master of the Lodge in 2003. He is a Perpetual Member attended regularly and served his Lodge well until moving back to Texas.
When he wasn’t working on big construction jobs like the Astrodome or Delta Downs he was piddling with his tools in his shop in Vinton. He also enjoyed camping at the deer lease with Jimmie and John. There are many a deer lease stories to be told. He was an avid fisherman and cast many a line into Galveston Bay and Toledo Bend Lake. In his later years he enjoyed attending musical events held at the assisted living residences where he lived.
He is survived by his children, Janice Cumbie and husband Leslie, Jimmie Ballard, Jr. and wife Sarah Nelle, John Ballard and wife Stacy, mother of his children, Virginia Ballard, grandchildren, Leslie Cumbie, Jr., Michael Ballard and wife Kaylee, Caitlin Holden and husband Jake, Beau Ballard and fiancé Summer, Jakob Ballard and wife Caitlin, and Zachary Ballard and fiancé Macie, great granddaughter, Sadie Ballard, sister, Sandra Sams and husband Charles, brother Donald Ballard and wife Mardie, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and wife Ruby Ballard and wife Shirley Ballard.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home with visitation to start at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow in the Garden Park Cemetery.
