Jessie Mae Maricle Wright, 93, of League City, went home to be with her Lord early Sunday, July 10th. She was guided to her passage by family, friends, and the supportive staff at The Delaney at South Shore. She was born December 10, 1928 in Ten Mile, LA to the union of Mayo Maricle and Allie Mae Lambright Maricle. After graduating from Glenmora High School, she worked at the local papermill during the day making paper sacks, and at a café at night where she met the love of her life – when J.R. followed her home from work and asked her out.
Jessie loved the Lord, her family and friends, her homes, her music and a cold Miller Lite. She will be missed by all those that enjoyed being in the presence of her organized, infectious, caring spirit as a sister and leader in the Order of the Eastern Star, a resource in the kitchen, or as a self-proclaimed slot machine wizard. She was a girl scout leader, played the piano in church, seamstress for many, brisket cooker, Friday night football concession stand coordinator, chili cook in the invitation only Ladies State Chili Championship in Luckenbach. There wasn’t much that involved feeding people or just taking care of them that she didn’t do.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, J.R. Wright and her son James Rodney Wright. Also her parents, Mayo and Allie Mae Maricle; six brothers, Foster, Dan, Derwood, Gervis, Sonny and Bobby Maricle; six sisters, Lizzie Johnson, Willie Mae Doyle, Bessie Gray, Jo Helen Cloud, Marie Doyle and Glennell Brister.
Among those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter Beverly Wright of Clear Lake Shores, TX, one brother, Larry Maricle of Ten Mile, LA; three sisters, Faye Strother and Bonita Doyle both of Ten Mile and Myrna Loy of DeRidder, LA, her sisters-in-law Geraldine Wright Smith of Seabrook, TX, Jeanette Maricle, and Yvonne Maricle of Oakdale, LA along with a host of extended family, friends and neighbors from her homes in Lometa, Conroe, Clear Lake Shores, Regal Estates and Delaney communities.
Visitation and storytelling will be held at the Metcalf Funeral Directors from 4-7pm Thursday July 14th. Funeral services and the celebration of her life will be held at 10:00am, Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Metcalf Funeral Directors chapel at 1801 E. White Oak Terrace, Conroe, TX 77304 with Dr. J.D. Andrews officiating. Lunch will be provided after the service in the dining hall. Committal service will follow in the Garden Park Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Paul Veit, Brett Veit, Brendon Veit, Lance Runnels, Pete Meeh and Floyd Shahan.
Since Jessie always loved a party, we will listen to some of her favorite tunes, laugh as we share good memories, and work to fill the hole her passing leaves in our hearts with those smiles and stories. Feel free to think of a good one to share with all of us. Let’s brighten the room with some purple to show your support for finding a cause and a cure to a disease that takes those memories away from our loved ones, one at a time.
