James Morey LaPeyre Jr was born August 19, 1939 in Bracketville, Texas to James Morey LaPeyre Sr. and Emily Martin LaPeyre. He passed from this life on May 12, 2016 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 76.
As a young man he honorably served as a member of the Navy Seals for the US Navy during the Vietnam War. When out on leave he attended a dance at Garner State Park and met his future bride Tommie Alycene LaPeyre whom he married on September 7, 1962. His career included working as an electronic tech for the Apollo Missions for NASA and later building his own electrical business. He decided to embark on a career change and attended A&M University where he achieved his teaching degree. He taught various classes including building trades, agriculture and finally settled on Texas history which was a good match for his love of storytelling. He taught for nearly 30 years, retiring to take care of Tommie. His hobbies included reading, rock polishing, coin collecting, spending time at his farm and enjoying time with his family.
James was predeceased by his wife Tommie Alycene Browning LaPeyre and is survived by his son, Kelly LaPeyre and wife Diane of Montgomery, Texas; daughter, Vicki King and husband Irven of Rockdale, Texas; grandchildren: Emily Fournier, Sara Banta, Brittany LaPeyre, Pyper Juarez, Austin King, Tyler King, Kinnzie LaPeyre, Travis King, Kristopher LaPeyre and Carson King; great grandchildren, Molly Fournier and Tessa Fournier. Inurnment will be in the Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
