Helen graduated from New Castle High School (New Castle, IN), before graduating from Purdue University, where she became a member of both Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and Gold Pepper. She was a Kappa Delta Rho Sis. Helen earned her Masters Degree from Ohio State University and worked toward her PhD there as well. Helen was an active member in service to others and community throughout her life, including roles as a math teacher and administrator (in education, Ohio Commission on Aging, and United Way of Clermont & Brown Counties from which she retired in 1998).
In addition to her exceptional career, Helen was a loving Mother and caring friend. She especially enjoyed travel, bridge (Life Master), games, and puzzles with those she loved. Helen was an avid reader, debater, and classic movie fan. She married Robert Keith Armstrong, on August 11, 1956. The couple lived in West Lafayette, IN; Great Lakes, IL (and other Navy locations); Lititz, PA; Willard, OH; Xenia, OH; Worthington, OH; (Anderson Twp.) Cincinnati, OH; Batavia, OH; and finally settled in Montgomery, TX. She and her husband traveled nationally and internationally after retirement to all fifty states and eighty countries in an RV and on cruises, promising that there would be “nothing left to inherit”.
Helen is survived by her husband (Keith), sister-in-law (Vickie Bertram of New Castle, IN), three children (Joelle (Armstrong) Dulaney of Montgomery, TX; Jeff and Carol (Kirsch) Armstrong of Cincinnati; and Randy and Cindy (Browning) Parks Armstrong of Katy, TX), six grandchildren (Bobbi Dulaney and husband Jeremy Gilbert of Oakland, CA; Katy Armstrong and Haley Armstrong both of Tomball, TX; Jen Armstrong and wife Ash Ibbotson of Ontario, Canada; Liz and husband Aaron Young of Holloman AFB, NM; and Britt/Liam/Fletcher Armstrong of Oneonta, NY); two step-grandchildren (Michael and wife Candace Parks of Katy, TX and James and wife Sarah Parks of Katy, TX), four great-grandchildren (Holly and Cole Wentworth of Tomball, TX; and Abigail and Claire Young of Holloman AFB, NM), seven step-great-grandchildren (Kohen, Benjamin, and Aaron Parks of Katy, TX and Autumn, Abigale, Samuel, and Amelia Parks of Katy, TX); and many other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Helen will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at April Sound Country Club, 1000 April Sound Blvd., Montgomery, Texas.
A memorial service will also be held for her Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Universalist Unitarian Church, Cincinnati, Ohio.
