Gary Edward Brownlow, age 88, beloved, husband, father, “Pop”, and “Poppy”, passed away on November 10, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma on December 28, 1935, to Guy and Grace Brownlow.
He attended New Deal High School, where he was a star football player and captain of the team. After graduation, Gary married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Brownlow, and they had two daughters, Patti and Laurie. He attended Texas Tech University, The University of Texas at Austin, and graduated from The University of Houston with a degree in pharmacy. He dedicated many years to serving his community as a Registered Pharmacist with Scott’s Pharmacy in Conroe, and his own businesses, Gary’s Community Pharmacy, in Humble, and April Point Pharmacy & Gifts, in Montgomery.
Gary enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer. He loved being on the greens and fairways with his buddies or golfing vacations with Dolores and their friends, but nothing beat a round of golf with his grandson, Cody or spending time with his granddaughters, Elli & Averi. While he was best known for his wicked sense of humor, practical jokes, and being the life of the party, he was also known for his kind, loveable, and selfless nature. He brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Grace Brownlow; his wife of 63 years, Dolores Brownlow; and his sister, Judy Foster. He is survived by daughters Patti Daw of Conroe, TX and Laurie Brownlow of McKinney, TX; grandchildren Cody Daw of Slidell, LA, Ellison Morris and Averi Morris of McKinney, TX; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to give a very special thanks to his wonderful care team at Silver Leaf Assisted Living, the nurses and staff at Freedom Hospice, and all those that visited, loved and cared for him in his final days. A memorial service will be held to honor Gary on December 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm, at Metcalf Funeral Home located at 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, TX 77304. Memorial donations in memory of Gary can be made to a charity of your choice.
