Dorothy “Dot” Golding Petty passed away in Falls Church, Virginia on January 2, one day before celebrating her 94th birthday. She was born at home during a rare Texas snowstorm on January 3, 1930 on a farm located between Willis and Conroe. Due to the weather, Dot arrived before the doctor.
She graduated from Conroe High School and attended Sam Houston State University until she married her valentine, Fred Blanton Petty, Jr. on February 14, 1948. They remained sweethearts for 71 years.
Dot had a deep love for her family and was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is predeceased by her parents, John Madison Golding, Sr. and Eunice Ainsworth Golding, her sisters Mary Agnes Roth and Frances Williams, and her brother, John Madison “JM” Golding, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula Petty Hansen (John) of Rochester, New York, her granddaughter, Amy Hansen Akers (Nicklas) of Burlingame, California, and her grandson, Sean Hansen (Grace) of Sunnyvale, California.
She was fortunate to know and to love three great grandchildren: Abigail Akers, Benjamin Hansen, and Jonathan Hansen, all residing in California with their parents. She also is survived by a niece and four nephews. Dot was a loyal friend and she fostered many close and meaningful friendships throughout her life.
Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dear Ana, Dot’s helper and loving caregiver for many years. Ana made it possible for our family to grant Dot’s wish to remain in her home in Falls Church until the end of her life.
A service celebrating the life of Dot Petty will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 13 at Metcalf Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery.
