Carl Alvin Gentry

Born April 23, 1925 in Greenville County, SC, he was the son of the late Millard Jerome Gentry and Bertha York Gentry. Carl was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover where he was a member of the Laymans League. He retired from Foamex and was an auxiliary police officer with the Conover Police Department. Carl enjoyed playing pool and was very involved with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leroy Gentry, Earl Gentry, and R. L. Gentry; sister, Opal Frye.

Carl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeraldean “Jerry” Matthews Gentry; daughter, Kathy Hollar Isenhour and husband, Gary, of Conover; sisters, Wanda Kerr and husband, Edwin, of Hickory, Dorothy “Louise” Pitts of Georgia; grandchildren, Stanley Alvin Schell Jr. and wife, Stacie, of Maiden; great-grandchildren, Deanna Schell, Taylor Schell, and Andrea Schell.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Weaver and Vicar Harry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
